Admission Requirements

Students may enter ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ as undergraduates into these pathways in preparation for acceptance into the MAT Program. Students are accepted into either Health Sciences or the Applied Exercise Science as incoming undergraduate students. The recommended curriculums for these undergraduate programs are detailed in the ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ undergraduate catalog. Admitted students meeting the following criteria will be eligible as undergraduate students for one of these accelerated pathways.

  • SAT total of 1090 (ACT score of 21 or higher)
  • High school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale

Students offered this guaranteed position must also maintain the following criteria while enrolled in the undergraduate program at ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ:

  • Overall GPA (no rounding) of 3.0 or higher in ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ undergraduate courses by end of junior/3rd year
  • A grade of “C” or higher must be earned in all pre-requisite courses (see list below)
  • Students are allowed to repeat up to 4 credits of pre-requisite coursework
  • Students can only replace up to 2 prerequisite course grades if the original grade was a “C”

Accelerated students failing to meet these standards will be decelerated to a traditional 4-year undergraduate pathway.

Upon completion of the student’s third (accelerated) or fourth (traditional) year of the undergraduate curriculum, these pathways will have a guaranteed position in the MAT Program. 

Students enrolled in a 3+2 Accelerated Pathway must meet the following requirements for admission into the MAT Program. Accelerated students may be admitted to the MAT Program via one of ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ’s 3+2 pathways or through a 3+2 pathway established with an external institution.

  • All prerequisite course grades at a C or better. 
  • Overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better (4.0 scale)
  • Demonstrates ethical, personal, and professional qualities to fulfill the roll of an athletic trainer as determined by review of the applicant’s references
  • Meets Technical Standards of the athletic trainer.
  • International Students:  IELTS score of 6.5 or higher, or a TOEFL score of 79 or higher
  • All admission offers will be pending based upon the receipt of successful background checks (this is not required as part of the application process but only required after a student accepts admittance into the MAT).

The following are admission requirements to the ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ 2-year MAT Program for students completing a traditional 4-year undergraduate pathways who are enrolled at ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ or another higher education institution:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • All prerequisite course grades at a C or better. 
  • Overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better (4.0 scale)
  • Demonstrates ethical, personal, and professional qualities to fulfill the roll of an athletic trainer as determined by review of the applicant’s references
  • Meets Technical Standards of the athletic trainer.
  • International Students:  IELTS score of 6.5 or higher, or a TOEFL score of 79 or higher
  • Admission reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis.
  • All admission offers will be pending based upon the receipt of successful background checks (this is not required as part of the application process but only required after a student accepts admittance into the MAT).

The following are program prerequisite courses required for student admission into the MAT Program:

  • 3-4 credits of Biology (lab optional)
    • May not count anatomy or human physiology for the biology requirement.
  • 3 credits Social/Behavioral Science (200 level or higher)
    • ÌÇÐÄVLOGÍøÒ³°æ students are recommended to take PSYCH 222, but other courses are acceptable.
  • 3-4 credits Physics (lab optional)
  • 3-4 credits Chemistry (lab required)
  • 6-8 credits of Anatomy and Human Physiology (labs required)
    • Maybe taken as two 3-4 credit Anatomy and Physiology courses, with labs
    • OR taken as 3-4 credits of Anatomy with lab and 3-4 credits of Human Physiology with lab
  • 3 credits of Statistics

The above requirements cannot be waived.  Prerequisites must be completed within five years prior to the beginning of the first summer session after admission into the graduate program. Students not completing prerequisites at the time of application may be admitted provisionally, pending completion before the summer session begins.

  • Kinesiology with lab
  • Nutrition
  • Research Methods
  • Exercise Physiology
